The Foundation for Legal Research – Call for Grant Applications

The Foundation for Legal Research‘s mandate is to help enable the creation of top-quality legal writing—one of the key tools that Canadian lawyers and judges need in their everyday work.

Description: The Foundation for Legal Research provides funds for legal research falling into three broad categories, namely:

  • Research and writing where the emphasis is on the statement of existing rules of law, sometimes referred to as doctrinal research;
  • Research with regard to the working of the legal system; and
  • Research with regard to development in fields peripheral to legal doctrine, such as criminology, psychology, psychiatry, sociology and economics and their relationship to rules of law.

Deadlines:
Faculty of Law Research Office: 5 days before the agency deadline (If you wish to have feedback on your application send to Karen Kueneman allowing at least one week.)
Research Development & Services:
At least 5 days before the agency deadline.
Foundation for Legal Research: January 22, 2016

Amount: amounts ranging from $3,500 to $5000
In addition, up to 4 major grants in the amount of $10,000 will be awarded for research projects in the field of public law (including but not limited to constitutional law, administrative law, municipal law, criminal law, aboriginal law and public international law)

Eligibility: research funding is available to jurists, including legal scholars in Canadian Universities.  A Principal Investigator (PI) must be eligible to hold a research account at Western.

Applications and more information… Full Applications are to be processed through Research Western  and are to be accompanied by a completed ROLA. Karen Kueneman will assist with the ROLA.
