Ontario Early Researcher Awards (ERA) Program

The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation has formally launched Round 12 of the Early Researcher Awards (ERA) Program. The program encourages applications from all disciplines. The ERA  is a highly competitive program that provides funding to new researchers working at publicly funded Ontario research institutions to build a research team.

In order to prepare for this round Research Development will be holding a workshop with the details to be announced soon.

Amount: Each award to a leading researcher is a maximum of $100,000 and must be matched by an additional $50,000 from the researcher’s institution and/or a partner organization.

The funds are to be used over a period of 5 years to fund eligible expenses for a research team of undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, associates, and technicians.

Deadlines:

  • The Ministry of Research and Innovation requires institutional research offices to email a Notice of Intent (NoI) for each ERA applicant by 4:00 pm Friday, June 17, 2016.
  • Complete application packages for Round 12 must be received by the Ministry or post-marked on or before 4:00 pm Monday, August 22, 2016.

Eligibility dates for this submission:

  • No more than 5 years from having started their independent academic research career, as of July 1, 2016; and
  • No more than 10 years, taking into consideration eligible interruptions, from having completed their first Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, or Medical Doctor, as of July 1, 2016.

NOTE: To be competitive, researchers are encouraged to be actively involved in conducting research that has been supported by peer-reviewed funding and to demonstrate academic independence from previous supervisors
