CIHR Foundation and Project Grant Fall Timelines Announced

Details of the next Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Foundation Grant and Project Grant funding opportunities are now will be available on ResearchNet the week of August 29, 2016.

FOUNDATION GRANT (Fall 2016)
The Foundation Grant is designed to contribute to a sustainable foundation of new, mid-career, and established health research leaders, by providing long-term support for the pursuit of innovative, high-impact research programs. (Competition proceeding without significant changes) Details are now available on CIHR’s Fall 2016 Foundation Grant competition, and Registration is OPEN.

Deadlines:
Registration:  September 13
Faculty Research Office: at least 1 week prior to agency deadline (2-3 weeks if you wish feedback on your application – submit to Karen Kueneman)
Research Western internal ROLA proposal and (draft) Application deadline:  October 6 by/before 5PM
CIHR -Stage 1 –  October 13
Anticipated Funding start date – July 2017

PROJECT GRANT (Fall 2016)
The Project Grant is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes. It supports projects with a specific purpose and a defined endpoint. (The competition is being modified as per the recommendations of the Peer Review Working Group) Details are now available on CIHR’s Fall 2016 Project Grant competition.

Deadlines:
Registration:
  September 20
Faculty Research Office: at least 1 week prior to agency deadline (2-3 weeks if you wish feedback on your application – submit to Karen Kueneman)
Research Western internal ROLA proposal and (draft) Application deadline:  October 11 by/before 5PM
 CIHR Full Application:  October 18
Anticipated Funding start date – April 2017

NOTES:  See new information regarding multiple applications 

  • Applicants can either send one application as a program leader through the Foundation Grant competition; OR up to two applications as a Nominated Principal Investigator through the Project Grant competition.
  • As long as an individual holds a Foundation Grant in the role of a program leader, he or she is not eligible to apply to the Project Grant competition in the role of principal applicant.
