Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) – Update on Innovation Fund

Please find below important updates regarding Western’s internal processes for the next round of the CFI Innovation Fund. (Link to original information…)

Timeline: The CFI has indicated that the new round of the Innovation Fund is likely to launch later in the fourth quarter of 2018 after a round of consultation with stakeholders. Because of this, as well as a review of the submitted NOIs and concerns regarding the compressed internal timeline for submitting full applications, Research Western is extending the timeline for the internal process. Full internal applications will now be due on Monday, September 10.

This extension will allow continued acceptance of additional Notices of Intent until Tuesday, May 29. Applicants who have already submitted an NOI will have the option of letting their NOI stand as-is, or updating it at any time prior to May 29.

An updated Call for Proposals reflecting these changes is attached, and will be posted on the website next week. Researchers who considered submitting an internal proposal but could not meet the initial timelines are encouraged to apply. As a reminder, the NOIs will not be used in the internal review process, and the extension of the NOI deadline will therefore not impact the eventual evaluation of submitted internal applications.

“Pitch Your Proposal” Event: The “Pitch Your Proposal” Event will be held on Thursday, April 19, from 12:30 – 3:00 (FIMS/Nursing Building, Room 1200) to provide applicants with an opportunity to obtain constructive feedback on their infrastructure proposal prior to the submission of internal applications. Details of the event and the panel composition will be posted on the website next week, and applicants are strongly encouraged to participate. The event will be open to any who wish to attend to listen to the various pitches and feedback provided.
