Knowledge Synthesis Grant – “Living Within the Earth’s Carrying Capacity” (SSHRC, NSERC & CIHR)

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have launched a Knowledge Synthesis Grants competition to assess the state of research knowledge on the topic of “Living Within the Earth’s Carrying Capacity.

Amount: $50,000 for one year

Deadlines:
Faculty Research Office: At least 1 week before the SSHRC Deadline (2-3 weeks earlier if you wish feedback on your application – submit to Karen Kueneman)
Research Development & Services: At least 5 days before the SSHRC Deadline
SSHRC:  January 7, 2020 (Results March 2020)

Description: The themes below illustrate the many interconnected issues that encompass the global challenge of Living Within the Earth’s Carrying Capacity and are not exclusive. See the website for sub-questions

  • governance and capacity building
  • Indigenous knowledge systems and experiences
  • economic policy considerations
  • socio-cultural and health considerations
  • measures and evaluation frameworks
  • adaptation and risk mitigation

Eligibility: Proposals may involve any of the disciplines and approaches or subject areas eligible for SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR funding. Applicants  must hold an eligible academic research appointment at Western. For this particular future challenge area, a multisectoral approach is sought that bridges academic research and its use across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that feature multidisciplinary research teams.

Note: Knowledge Synthesis Grants are not intended to support original research. Rather, they are intended to support the synthesis of existing research knowledge and the identification of knowledge gaps.

A ROLA proposal must be completed with the application.
