Western Libraries is offering two workshops on Thursday, March 18, 2021 on the following topics:

  • Ins and Outs of Publishing Fees (10:00am)
  • Introduction to Open Educational Resources (1:00pm)

These offerings will be of particular interest to faculty, but staff, undergraduate, and graduate students are also welcome to attend. Session descriptions and registration links are below.

Ins and Outs of Publishing Fees: Have you been asked to pay an article processing charge or other fee to publish your work in a journal? Learn why these fees exist and understand your options for paying the fee or publishing without a fee. This session will include news about new, recently-negotiated discounts for Western-affiliated authors. Register here.

Introduction to Open Educational Resources: It’s no secret that textbooks can be expensive, and the shift to remote teaching this past year has certainly heightened challenges with access to course textbooks. Open Educational Resources (OER) offer an accessible and engaging alternative to commercial textbooks and course materials. OER are educational materials (like textbooks, streaming media, simulations, and more) that are free of cost and access barriers for learners. Join this workshop to learn the basics of OER, and how you can get started with them.  Register here
