NDRIO-Portage COVID-19 Data Curation Funding

NDRIO and Portage have announced funding to support the curation of Canadian research data related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amount: up to $42,000 (for HQP)

Faculty Research Office: At least 1 week before the sponsor deadline (2-3 weeks earlier if you wish feedback on your application – submit to Karen Kueneman)
Research Services: At least 1 week before the sponsor deadline
Portage: May 21, 2021 (results announced by June 18, 2021)

Description: This funding is available to researchers so they can employ highly qualified personnel (HQP) to assist with data stewardship and curation activities for research related to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is intended to bring COVID-19 related data into compliance with the FAIR Guiding Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) for the management of research data, algorithms, tools and workflows.


  • Funding recipients will also receive support from Portage in the form of an initial consultation with the Data Curation Team and with possible group or individual training activities during the course of the project, as determined by the needs of recipients and in consultation with Portage.
  • Project to be completed by March 31, 2022.
  • Western Libraries is interested in collaborating with researchers on this initiative and is willing to provide supervision and guidance for anyone hired under the terms of this grant. Contact Kristi Thompson, kthom67@uwo.ca

Eligibility: Applicants must hold an eligible academic research appointment at Western.
