The CIHR Project Grant program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential for important advances in fundamental or applied health-related knowledge, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes by supporting projects or programs of research proposed and conducted by individual researchers or groups of researchers in all areas of health.
Deadlines:
Registration (ResearchNet): Aug 18 (Mandatory)
Faculty Research Office: Aug 26 (If you wish to obtain feedback or an internal review for the application allow at least two-three weeks – contact Karen Kueneman)
Western Research: Sept 2, 2 pm (ROLA must be completed) Submit your complete draft application in ResearchNet
CIHR: Sept 15, 2 pm.
Amount: funding levels are proportionate to the requirements of the research proposed, which is expected to vary by research field, research approach, and scope of proposal activities

There were several changes to the competition that became effective Spring 2021 and continue into the Fall 2021 competition —please review CIHR’s Summary of Changes.
NEW for Fall 2021: A Tri-Agency interdisciplinary Peer Review (TAIPR) committee has been added with unique evaluation criteria. In addition to selecting this committee, both your summary and justification must justify why you picked the TAIPR panel, and your proposed project must include research across at least 2 of SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR.
