Royal Society of Canada Fellowships: Election to Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Canada’s national academy, is the highest honour that can be attained by Canadian scholars, researchers, and artists. Fellows are peer-elected as the best in their field. Their exceptional intellectual achievements are evidenced by a body of publications, intellectual endeavours, or creative activities exhibiting original contributions.
College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists: The College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists is Canada’s first national system of multidisciplinary recognition for the emerging generation of Canadian intellectual leadership. It comprises scholars, artists, and scientists who have demonstrated a high level of achievement in an early and highly productive stage of their careers. The membership of the College is made to be representative of the current state of academia in terms of research methods and domains, age, gender, and ethno-cultural diversity. Membership terms are seven years.
Eligibility for College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists: Nominees must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents within 15 years of the conferral of their PhD or equivalent. The RSC will consider an exemption period of up to three years for those who have had a career interruption for the purpose of maternity, childrearing, illness, or health-related family responsibilities.
Nominees must fit the above description for either fellowship or college membership and, at the time of their election, be Canadian citizens or have had Canadian permanent resident status for at least three years.
