Western’s Interdisciplinary Development Initiatives 2024

Western’s Interdisciplinary Development Initiatives (IDI) program is intended to seed new interdisciplinary collaborations that help position teams for success in securing external funding. IDIs will be exceptional programs that advance Western’s research mission, attract scholars and graduate students to the university, and bring prestige to the institution. Applications should be led by established or emerging scholars, integrate two or more disciplines (which may or may not be commonly combined) and will have clearly articulated research dimensions and objectives.

Amount: IDIs will be considered under two streams:

  • Stream 1: Up to $35,000 over one year
  • Stream 2: Up to $200,000 over two years

Eligibility: IDIs are open to researchers in all disciplines and Faculties. Proposals must identify a project leader and at least one co-investigator. The project leader must hold an academic appointment at Western and be eligible to hold research grants. There is no limit to team size.

NOTE: IDIs are intended to support new/emerging teams, or to significantly expand or merge existing teams. This program is not intended to support existing teams.
