SSHRC Impact Awards and Gold Medal 2024

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Impact Awards are designed to build on and sustain Canada’s research-based knowledge culture in the social sciences and humanities. They recognize outstanding scholars and celebrate their achievements in research, research training, knowledge mobilization and outreach activities funded partially or completely by SSHRC.

The SSHRC Impact Awards:

  • Gold Medal ($100,000): Individuals whose sustained leadership, dedication and originality have inspired students and colleagues;
  • Insight Award ($50,000): Individual or team whose project has resulted in significant contribution to knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world;
  • Connection Award ($50,000): Individual or team whose project has engaged the campus or community and has generated intellectual, cultural, social and/or economic impacts;
  • Partnership Award ($50,000): SSHRC funded formal partnership for its achievement in advancing research, training, or knowledge mobilization; and
  • Talent Award ($50,000): Recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual who, on April 1, 2024, holds a SSHRC doctoral scholarship or fellowship or postdoctoral fellowship.

Email rwprizes@uwo.ca with the name of the candidate and the SSHRC Impact Award Category
Internal: Thursday, February 2, by 4 p.m. ETAdjudication submission deadline
*required if there is more than one eligible candidate in any given category
External: April 1, 2024Final Submission to SSHRC

Eligibility: Nominees for 2024 must:

  • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or a “protected person” under subsection 95(2) of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, by the nomination deadline;
  • Be active social sciences and humanities researchers;
  • Hold or have held SSHRC funding pertinent to the award; and
  • Be affiliated with an eligible institution.

Western Internal Selection:

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI): January 15, 2024
    • Western may submit only one nomination for each award category. Anyone nominating a colleague or wanting to be considered for nomination must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to rwprizes@uwo.ca. Please include the name of the nominee and the SSHRC Impact Award category.
  2. Internal Adjudication Submission: February 2, 2024 (required in the event of multiple nominees in any SSHRC Impact Award category).
