Canadian Institute For Advanced Research (CIFAR)‘s new program is a two-year appointment designed to support young investigators. Each scholar will have the opportunity to be mentored by a senior researcher, to network within a community of top-tier research leaders, and to form new collaborations with colleagues from diverse disciplines. They will receive:
- $100,000 CDN in undesignated research support
- A two-year appointment to a CIFAR research program
- Specialized leadership and communication skills training
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree and be within five years of their first full-time academic appointment. Scholars’ research must align with the themes of an eligible CIFAR research program. In 2017, the eligible programs are:
- Successful Societies [disciplines include political economy and comparative public policy]
- Institutions, Organizations & Growth [disciplines include economics; political science]
- Cosmology & Gravity
- Learning in Machines & Brains
- Bio-inspired Solar Energy
- Quantum Materials
- Genetic Networks
- Child & Brain Development
- Humans & the Microbiome
- Molecular Architecture of Life
- Azrieli Program in Brain, Mind & Consciousness [disciplines include Law]
Applications: All applications must be submitted online through the Global Scholars application website and will include:
- Summary Section describing: the most significant research achievement, how the research complements the CIFAR program chosen, most important leadership experience and any engagement or outreach with non-academic communities
- Detailed Section discussing research background and proposed future directions, the desire to make an impact outside of academia,
- Citation of research interests
- A current CV as one .pdf document
- Three letters of recommendation
