The 2018 Insight Development Grants (IDG) funding application is now available.
Description: Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term research development projects, of up to two years, proposed by individuals or teams. Insight Development Grants foster research in its early stages, and are not intended to support large-scale initiatives.
Deadlines:
January 12, 2018: Draft of proposal due – the Research Officer will facilitate an internal peer review if you meet this deadline
January 19, 2018: Faculty deadline – full proposal (will be reviewed again by the Research Officer)
January 26, 2018, 5:00 pm: Research Development & Services & ROLA
February 2, 2018, 2:00 pm: SSHRC (results available by June 2017)
Amount: $7,000 up to $75,000
Eligibility: Both emerging and established scholars who are affiliated with an eligible Canadian post-secondary institution are eligible to apply. A Principal Investigator (PI) must be eligible to hold a research account at Western.
- Emerging scholars: This funding supports high-quality research projects by emerging scholars to develop new research questions and/or approaches. Such projects may build on and further the applicant’s (or team’s) graduate work and/or represent a continuation of their overall research trajectory.
- Established scholars: Funding for established scholars provides support to explore new research questions and/or approaches that are distinct from the applicant’s previous/ongoing research. Research projects should be clearly delimited and in the early stages of the research process. Insight Development Grant funding is not intended to support ongoing research for established scholars.
Applications: The IDG application form is available via the Research Portal.
Please contact Karen Kueneman, Research Officer if you plan to apply.
NOTE: This competition uses the Canadian Common CV (CCV). Applicants and co-applicants are encouraged to complete their SSHRC CCV as soon as possible. Applicants should expect that creating a SSHRC CCV for the first time will require a significant time investment.
