Western’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2019

Research Western invites applications from all eligible individuals for Western’s Postdoctoral Fellowships Program. This program is funded by Western University and administered by Research Development & Services (RD&S).

Western’s Postdoctoral Fellowships Program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, nationally and internationally, who will contribute positively to research excellence at the university and help advance Western’s strategic research plan.

Deadline: February 8, 2019 at 14:00 EST.

Amount: $20,000 (+ benefits) from Research Western per year for 2 years

  • Matching Funds: the program requires matching funds of at least $20,000 (+ benefits) from another source per year for 2 years
  • Thus postdocs will receive at minimum $40,000 (+ benefits) per year for two years.

Description: The program will fund up to 10 fellowships annually. Five fellowships are allocated to postdoctoral Scholars whose primary supervisor is affiliated with social sciences and humanities-related disciplines (Arts & Humanities, Education, Information and Media Sciences, Law, Music, Business, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences). At least one fellowship (of the available 10) is reserved for outstanding individuals who will undertake research that has the potential of advancing excellence in Indigenous scholarship, as outlined in Western’s Indigenous Strategic Plan. Proposals involving interdisciplinary research/scholarship are encouraged.

Eligibility: The applicant’s PhD must have been granted (official convocation/ graduation date) after August 31, 2014 and before the starting date of the Postdoctoral Fellowship. Exceptions may be made for special circumstances/ career interruptions. Those who received their PhD from Western University are not eligible to apply.

Supervisor: Applicants must secure written commitment of a qualified faculty member at Western who has the expertise, experience, and capacity to act as the Principal Supervisor of the Postdoctoral Scholar and their proposed project (see instructions for the “Supervisor’s Statement” attachment on the application form). Supervisors must also hold a research-eligible position at Western.

ROLA: The Principal Supervisor (in consultation with the applicant) must submit a ROLA proposal.
