The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade has announced the launch of Round 15 of the Early Researcher Awards.
Description: The Early Researcher Award (ERA) program helps promising, recently-appointed Ontario researchers build their research teams of undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, associates, and technicians. The goal of the program is to improve Ontario’s ability to attract and retain the best and brightest research talent. The Early Researcher Awards program includes nine panels recognizing achievement in the categories of Arts and Humanities, Energy, Engineering and Emerging Technologies, Environmental and Natural Sciences, Health Systems Research, Information and Communication Technologies, Math and Physics, Life Sciences – Clinical, Life Sciences – Non-Clinical, Materials and Advanced Manufacturing, and Social Sciences.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible to apply, you must have received your first PhD, MD, or terminal degree on or after January 1, 2009, and have started your independent academic career on or after January 1, 2014. If you have questions regarding your eligibility, contact Research Development.
Amount: Each award to a leading researcher is a maximum of $100,000 and must be matched by an additional $50,000 from the researcher’s institution and/or a partner organization.
Deadlines:
- August 15, 2019: First draft submitted to RDS if participating in internal peer review
- August 29, 2019: Revised draft submitted to RDS if participating in internal peer review; first draft if not participating in internal peer review
- September 12, 2019: Peer reviewer comments returned to applicants
- October 3, 2019: ROLA proposal, final application, and reference letters submitted to RDS
- October 10, 2019: Submission of applications to the Ministry.
