ROMEO, the former online application system for Western’s Research Ethics Boards (REBs), was replaced by WREM in 2017. Researchers were advised at that time to download all applicable study documents for their own records. The Office of Human Research Ethics (OHRE) has retained limited administrative access until now; this limited access is frequently relied on by researchers who did not ensure that their study records were complete.

The OHRE’s administrative access to ROMEO will soon be completely decommissioned and there will be absolutely no further access to ROMEO.

Any study documentation still housed in ROMEO must be downloaded by October 6, 2023. If you have saved your ROMEO documents previously, thank you. If you cannot produce your ROMEO documents when requested during a review of a post-approval even, you may be asked to submit a new WREM initial application.
