Digital Originals will support Canadian artists and arts organizations to reach Canadian audiences online during the COVID-19 crisis by enabling them to adapt their work for digital dissemination.
The Canada Council for the Arts (CCA) has teamed up with CBC/Radio-Canada to offer this new opportunity through $5,000 micro-innovation grants. CBC/Radio-Canada will curate and feature selected projects in a digital showcase.
The Canada Council recognizes the significant impact of COVID-19 on the Canadian arts sector, with countless performances, exhibitions, screenings, tours and festivals being cancelled or delayed due to necessary public health restrictions. Digital Originals will support artists and arts organizations in finding new ways to connect with audiences online during this difficult time.
Who will be able to apply? The Digital Originals initiative will be open to artists, artistic organizations and groups across the country with a validated Canada Council profile, in all fields of practice, including new and early career artists. No prior digital experience will be required. Note that organizations currently receiving core funding will not be eligible.
What types of projects will be funded? You can apply for a $5,000 micro-innovation grant to develop, create and share new or adapted work for digital dissemination to the Canadian public during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants will enable you to work quickly to either adapt your existing work or create new work for sharing online.
When can applications be submitted? Preview guidelines and details for Digital Originals will be shared on the Council’s website in late April. The Council’s grant application portal will open mid-May, and applications will be accepted until June 15, 2020. Visit the Digital Originals web page and social media accounts for the latest news.
NOTE: In general, you will be unable to apply to CCA in your capacity at Western University. You will apply as an individual. Check with CCA’s Program Officer for the program you are interested in prior to completing your application to ensure you are eligible. Canada Council grants are considered taxable income – more about income taxes and grants from CCA.
